You don't have to be a geek to love Weezer, but that does seem to be a big chunk of the band's fan base. It doesn't hurt that enigmatic frontman Rivers Cuomo looks (and acts, and sings, and writes) the part so perfectly, right down to his hard-won Harvard degree. Jason Cropper left the band while the group was recording its first album. He was replaced by Brain Bell of "Carnival Art."

After quite a few lineup changes, Cuomo and Wilson are the last ones standing.
Cuomo was called "Weezer" as a kid -- although apparently not because he suffered from asthma, as legend has it.
Just five weeks after the band formed, Weezer opened for Keanu Reeves and Dogstar at Raji's Bar and Ribshack in Los Angeles.

Weezer's debut (1994) is known as "The Blue Album." Their third album (2001) is "The Green Album," and 2008's release is "The Red Album."
Ric Ocasek of the Cars was the producer of the Blue Album and the Green Album.
"If you want to destroy my sweater..." was the first single released from Weezer's debut album, followed by "Buddy Holly" and "Say it Ain't So."

The first is still the best. Weezer's debut Blue Album is their top seller to date.
"Oh oh, and you're Mary Tyler Moore. I don't care what they say about us anyway. I don't care about that."
Early Weezer collaborator Spike Jonze (who also directed the video for "Undone -- The Sweater Song) gained movie fame with "Being John Malkovich" and "Adaptation" before directing "Where the Wild Things Are."

Jonze used clips from "Happy Days" to make it look like Weezer was playing at Arnold's Drive-in Diner.

Weezer scored their first and only No. 1 hit with "Beverly Hills" in 2005.

Cuomo and his family lived in "Yogaville," an ashram run by Sri Swami Satchidananda in Pomfret, Conn.
Cuomo enrolled in Harvard in 1995. He was 35 when he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 2006.
On the Foozer tour in 2005, the band would invite a fan onstage to play "Undone" and then give him or her the acoustic guitar.

The "Pork and Beans" video -- featuring the "Numa Numa" guy, the "Leave Britney Alone" guy and the "Chocolate Rain" guy, among others -- won the Grammy for Best Short Form Music Video in 2008.
Weezer's tour bus crashed in upstate New York in December 2009, and Cuomo was injured.
