About This Quiz

Etiquette is defined as "a code of behavior that delineates expectations for social behavior according to contemporary conventional norms within a society, social class or group." It has been called by many "behaviors that assist in survival and has evolved over the years."

During the Enlightenment era (18th century), various norms and behaviors became symbols of being a member of the middle and upper-class bourgeoise. Soon enough, many people were preoccupied with these standards, some of which including when to show emotion, how to master graceful conversation, how to dress elegantly and how to act courteously. Although the emphasis was more on the women, both sexes were involved in this new civility.

By the time the Victorian era (19th to 20th century) had rolled around, an elaborate and complicated system was developed, and numerous books were written on the topic. There were even schools opened where people would send their children to, for them to learn how to interact with the different classes and what is socially acceptable.
