Ready to put your brain to the ultimate test? IQ stands for intelligence quotient. Essentially, it measures someone's cognitive abilities and aptitude in very specific situations against the norm. In IQ tests, 100 is considered average and depending on how they perform, people score either above or below it. A range of roughly 85 to 115 is considered normal, with Genius IQ ranging above 145. In theory, the highest anyone could score on an IQ test is 200, but since the test's development in 1912, a small elite group of people has scored over 200.
About 2/3 of the population scores in the normal range, between 85-115, while 5% scores either extraordinarily high or low. Some of the world's most famous high IQ scorers are Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. Einstein had an IQ between 160 and 190. Hawking scored 160. The highest IQ ever tested belonged to William James Sidis, who tested between 250-300. Despite his absurdly high IQ test and getting accepted to Harvard at age 11, he died penniless in his 40s as a teacher in Texas in 1944.
