Two of the biggest brands in the United States, wait no, the world, Ford and Chevrolet have been at each other's throats for over 100 years. This is a heavyweight fight that has seen both with their backs on the canvas only to bounce back for more and have their opponents on the retreat. And this has happened time and time again.
Why? Well, both make extraordinary vehicles that are loved all over the world. Yes, they have their duds in their times, with the Ford Edsel and the Chevy Corvair coming to mind, but by and large, the two companies are world leaders and part of America's big three because they continue to make great cars.
And the rivalry exists across a range of vehicles from the early days, to the muscle car wars of the 1960s, vans, minivans, sedans ... you name it, when either releases a model, they want to outsell their main rival first and foremost.
But the question is, as a car expert, could you tell their various models apart? If we show you just an image of a car, could you tell if it was made by Chevrolet or by Ford? Easy? Think again. It certainly isn't. Over the years, both car manufacturers have had many models. Some are harder to identify than others, while others, well the mere silhouette will give them away in a flash.

This plug-in hybrid vehicle from Chevrolet was first produced in 2010. It is available in a number of countries around the world. The Volt has an electric range of around 53 miles.
First launched in 2003 in the compact MPV market, the C-Max from Ford was the brand's first product that was solely hybrid. It features a luxury interior, spacious front seats and excellent driving and handling. In terms of economy however, the numbers on the C-Max are not as impressive as its competitors. Over 100,000 of these vehicles have been sold in the US since 2012.
A Chevrolet global brand, the Cruze (second generation) is also available in the United States where it is a fairly popular model. It is powered by a 1400 cc gasoline engine that produces an impressive 154 brake horsepower.
Available in the United States since 2006 and Europe a decade later, the Edge competes in the mid-size crossover SUV segment. Currently in its second generation, the Edge offers three-engine options on US models, with the 3.5-liter Duratec V6 the largest available. It pushes out 280 brake horsepower.
Since 1961, Chevrolet has included a van in their model lineup. Currently, this is the Express which was first manufactured in 1995. It is available in a cargo and passenger configuration, depending on the client's needs.
Built by Chevy as competition for the Ford Pinto, the Vega seemed to be a hit, winning the Motor Trend Car of the Year in 1971. Soon, however, owners found out that had some problems with reliability, safety, poor engine quality and was liable to rust ... a lot! It was even dubbed a "sloppily crafted, unreliable and unsafe automobile" by the Center for Auto Safety.
First manufactured in 1967, the Camaro is one of the most popular Chevrolet models ever. This muscle car has seen six different generations although there was a break in production from 2002 to 2010. The 2016 SS version is powered by a 6.1-liter V8 powered muscle car.
The Excursion was built by Ford between 1999 and 2005. It was marketed as a heavy-duty SUV vehicle and seen as competition for both the GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Suburban.
Named after Henry Ford's son, the Edsel was a massive flop and only sold between 1958 and 1960. It's not that the car was bad, it was just really overpriced. And that always turns people away!
A pickup with a difference, the SSR was produced by Chevrolet between 2003 and 2006. In fact, SSR stands for Super Sport Roadster with the vehicle actually a convertible pickup with a retractable hardtop! Unfortunately for Chevrolet, sales for the SSR were not exactly stellar.
The first minivan offered by Ford in the United States, the AeroStar was sold for a 12-year period between 1985 and 1987. During that period, over 2 million were sold.
The Baja Bronco was based on the race-winning Ford of off-roader Bill Stroppe. Around 650 were produced, each custom fitted by Stroppe himself. Changes included bigger wheel arches and tires, roll cages, different lights and much more.

The El Camino was produced by Chevrolet between 1964 and 1987. Despite the fact that it was a coupe/utility vehicle, the SS version was considered a muscle car and was powered by various big block V8 motors.
The Cortina was a product of Ford Britain and found throughout Europe between 1962 and 1982. It was extremely popular and the top seller in the United Kingdom in the 1970s. It was replaced by another popular European Ford, the Sierra.

After playing it safe for a number of years, Chevrolet introduced the GMT 400 in 1988. This truck features a sleek new body, designed with the help of a wind tunnel. The ride was also significantly improved thanks to and independent front suspension with torsion bars.
From its introduction in 2004 until 2017, the Equinox featured in the mid-sized crossover category. From 2018, however, it moved into the compact crossover SUV class. How this will affect sales, particularly in the United States, remains to be seen. At present, the Equinox is a top seller in the States and sold just over 242,000 units in 2016.
The Crown Victoria was introduced by Ford in 1991. This 4-door sedan was built up until 2011 and over that 20-year period, only two different generations were produced.
This van was first produced in 1961. Four different generations were built up until 2014, when the brand was replaced by the new Transit. The E-Series dominated the van market in North America, claiming well over 70% market share at times.
Produced between 1960 and 1999, the 454 was one of Chevrolet’s and GMC’s main pickup truck models. Its ability to handle tough off-road tracks greatly increased in 1989 when the new fourth-generation model received a fully independent front suspension.
Although the Ford RS Cosworth competed on the rally circuit, a few were made available for the public to buy. Simply put, this was a monster capable of 0-60 mph in under 6 seconds and a top speed of 147 mph. Our only complaint? The monstrous big spoiler found on many was simply hideous.

Introduced in 1917, the D Series was the first Chevrolet to have a V-8 engine. Sadly, it was horribly underpowered (only 36 brake horsepower), so much so that other four-cylinder engines were more powerful. By 1918 the D Series had disappeared and Chevy only returned to V8 motors 37 years later.
The Granada was marketed as a mid-sized car in the United States between 1975 and 1982. It came in many guises, including a 2- and 4-door sedan, station wagon, and a 2-door coupe. The Grenada was also sold in Europe.

This Ford minivan was produced for a nine-year period between 1994 and 2003. It was only the second minivan that Ford had made available in the United States and replaced the AeroStar. In 2010, Ford was forced to recall 575,000 Windstars due to rear-axle issues.
A real looker in 1990 and still one today, the ZR-1 became a very popular Corvette model. It was powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine that produced 375 brake horsepower.
The Ford Ka (no, we are also not sure how to pronounce it) was a popular product in many overseas markets and was first introduced in 1996. This small vehicle featured in the city car segment.
The Corvair's main claim to fame is that it was the only passenger car in the United States to be powered by an air-cooled, rear mounted engine. This did change the vehicle's handling somewhat and led to some controversy. The Corvair was produced between 1960 and 1969.
Produced from 1969 to 1977, the Maverick was a compact 2- or 4-door sedan. It came with a range of powerplant options, the biggest of which was a 5-liter V8.
