About This Quiz

Do you think you have what it takes to out-spell them all? People love spelling bees and contests of all kinds because they test a unique sort of mental power. It's always interesting to see who can spell like a champion under pressure and who will crack open and be unable to take the heat! The English language is unique, which can make learning all of its tricks a real challenge. There are a lot of rules to remember, but many of these rules have a ton of exceptions. It can be hard to master something which barely follows its own set of rules.

English is also tricky for another reason. Many languages are phonetic or close to it, meaning that once you know their rules, most words sound roughly how they are spelled, which makes spelling far easier. Many languages, such as French and Spanish, also use different accents to indicate how vowels are stressed and how certain consonants are pronounced. English has none of that to help spellers. English words do not always sound like they look, and English does not make use of accents.

If you think that you are a master speller ready to take English on, put your skills to the test with this quiz!
