About This Quiz
Flowering trees are not the short little plants that we usually think of when we hear the word "flower." In fact, some of them are so big that they can tower over our houses. They can provide us with protection from the wind, some of them filter air and other are resistant to certain diseases. But with the good also comes the bad, which means that some of these trees also have to ability to kill, both animals and humans. But we're not here to talk about the things these trees can and cannot do, although you may find some of that in our questions. We want to know whether you're able to identify some of the most popular flowering trees in the world.
Now although they all possess flowers, they do not all bear fruit. It's up to you to use what you know and have seen of these plants to match them to their names. We've added the popular cherry tree, crape myrtle, witch hazel and hibiscus in, but there are also some unfamiliar ones like the forsythia and mimosa tree.
If you're up to the challenge of trying to name these flowering trees from an image, it's time to get started.
This ornamental tree bears a round, red fruit. What is its name?
The cherry tree is a beautiful ornamental that is widely grown across the world in many temperate regions. The climate in that region ensures that it can germinate. However, it can also be grown in the tropics, where its fruit can be seen during the summer months.

Aslo known as rose mallow, can you tell us the name of this tropical, flowering plant?
Hibiscus, also known as rose mallow, is a flowering plant with more than 200 species. The type of hibiscus will determine how it is grown. It may be cultivated into a kind of bush or a small tree. The beautiful trumpet-shaped flowers are often used for medicinal purposes.

The white dogwood, also known as Cornus florida, is a tree commonly found in the eastern parts of the United States and it is actually the state tree of Virginia and the state flower of North Carolina. This tree produces bright flowers, mostly in the spring.

Known by many as the bull bay flower, do you know the more common name of this plant?
The southern magnolia, also called magnolia grandiflora or bull bay, produces flowers of purple, white, red, yellow and pink. The tree is a tall one and may grow from about 60 to 80 feet tall and produce oblong-shaped leaves that can grow as much as ten inches in length.

In North America, witch hazel is sometimes called winter bloom. Witch hazel is a deciduous tree that may sometimes be found as a shrub and can grow from 5 to 15 feet tall. There are different species of it such as Chinese witch hazel, but generally, the leaves are about 3-5 inches long. Witch hazel grows in shady, moist areas.

Tonto crape myrtle, usually referred to as crape myrtle, is a tree that grows easily and very quickly, and so should be carefully planted with lots of space for it to grow. This crape myrtle is the ideal backyard tree; its flowers of purple, white, mauve or pink add bright colors to the outdoors.
This flowering tree is one of the most poisonous in the world. Do you know its name?
The oleander is a small tree or evergreen shrub with long, slender leaves and flowers of a bright pink that bloom from the early summer months until mid-fall. Do not be fooled by its pretty sight though, as the oleander is very toxic and should not be consumed in any way.
