Close to one million vehicles are stolen in the United States each year. That's a massive number, we are sure you would agree. Figures posted back in 2012 show this to be an average of 229 vehicles stolen for every 100,000 inhabitants of the country. Incredible.
Not only does auto theft impact people's lives but it also has an effect on the economy. Estimates put the value of the vehicles stolen at $5.9 billion in 2016, with the average dollar loss per vehicle at a little over $7,000. Luckily, effective police work is seeking to drop in vehicle theft rates which had peaked in 1991 with over 1.6 million cars stolen in that year!
Interestingly enough, in 2017 the metropolitan area with the most thefts was Albuquerque, New Mexico, with Anchorage, Alaska, and Pueblo, Colorado, rounding out the top three.
