Wife, mother, nurse, or school teacher: as in real life, movie roles in the past for women were limited in number and in scope. Fortunately, the roles for women have changed in the last few decades, so that women can be welders, super heroes, and CIA agents, to name a few. Today’s movies are varied enough that every woman can imagine herself in the leading role.

Movie roles for woman have changed due to increased numbers of female screenwriters, as well as female directors, cast and crew. At the same time, Hollywood has woken up to the fact that ticket-buyers are 50-55% female. Meanwhile, new stories have surfaced, from women who were code breakers in World War II, to a team of female African-American mathematicians who worked at NASA in “Hidden Figures”. Empowering films such as “Erin Brockovich”, romantic comedies such as “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, buddy flicks like “Pitch Perfect”, even musicals like “Guys and Dolls, and “Les Miserables” have contributed to a changing landscape.

Whether it’s Jane Austen in "Becoming Jane", or one of the fabulous friends in “Bridesmaids”, or a professional boxer in “Million Dollar Baby", this quiz has the perfect role for you. See if you can name each movie from a single image!
