The difference between emotional age and chronological age can be very confusing to some people as growing up, we've only been taught to celebrate our birthdays every year. We have also heard sayings like "I look older than I feel," "I feel like an old soul," which alludes to the theory of emotional age.
Your chronological age is defined as "the number of years a person has lived" whereas someone's emotional age is defined as "an age that takes into account how old a person feels in different areas of their lives and their responses to certain situations."
Some people are often told the "they should act their age," meaning that they do and say things that are expected of someone in their age group. Psychologists, on the other hand, believe that the way in which people act are directly linked with experiences that they have had during their childhood, and either causes them to remain emotionally regressed or develop emotional maturity.
