Apples are crunchy and delicious, right? But can you feed them to your dog?

Apples are a great snack for your canine friend. Just don't feed them the seeds. These actually contain cyanide and although a few won't harm your furry friend, over a period of time, they might. Apples are not only sweet and delicious, but they are also packed with Vitamins A and C and add fiber​ to the diet.

We love chocolate, but is it something you could give your dog as a treat?

No! Never feed your dog chocolate. It is filled with methylxanthines. When a dog ingests this, it will start to vomit and eventually have a bout of diarrhea. Dogs will also pant, be hyperactive, drink lots of water and could have seizures or even die. So remember, no chocolate for dogs!

Should you give dairy products to your dog?

Dairy products, especially milk, is a no-no for your canine friend. Dogs just don't have the ability to efficiently break down the lactose found in milk. This can lead to vomiting and diarrhea.

If your kids won't eat them, could you feed brussel sprouts to your dog?

Brussel sprouts are great for dogs ... if they aren't fussy like kids! These round vegetables are filled with nutrients and vitamins that will only help your canine friend's overall health. Prepare them either steamed or boiled and lay off the salt. Fido won't mind. A word of warning, not too much in a serving, otherwise a flatulence problem might develop.

We all love honey, but can dogs eat it as a sweet treat?

Yes, as long as it is in small amounts, adult dogs can have honey. Too much could lead to tooth decay, so be sure to watch for that if you do choose to feed your dog honey.

Should you feed your dog any form of citrus?

No, not at all. No peels, pits or even the meat of the fruit. Citrus fruit like oranges are filled with citric acid and can cause problems to a dog's digestive system as well central nervous system depression.

Yes or no. Coconut flesh is a healthy snack for canines.

It certainly isn't. Although it is unlikely to do any harm in small quantities, continually feeding it to your dog may cause diarrhea and an upset stomach. Coconut water is also a no-no, due to its high potassium content.

Who doesn't love grapes and raisins? But are they a suitable snack for dogs?

Although they might seem harmless, do not feed grapes or raisins to your dog. These fruits can cause kidney failure in canines. So is it really worth the risk?

Can dogs each zucchini?

Zucchini is a great treat for dogs. Due to its low calorie nature, it is the perfect snack for dogs who are overweight and on a doggie diet. It is also packed with vitamins and minerals!

Another vegetable that your children probably won't eat, is asparagus safe to give to your furry friend?

Asparagus is fine for your pooch. Like most vegetables, it is healthy and filled with vitamins that are good for a dog. Note, however, just like with humans, asparagus can make your dog's urine smell. Eew!

Do you think it is a good idea to feed nuts to your dog?

Although you would think that nuts would not be a problem when fed to your dogs, they can cause pancreatitis, vomiting and upset stomachs. This is because they are high in both oil and fat.

Carrots? Do you think these are a good treat for canines?

As a snack, raw carrots are a brilliant option. Don't forget, however, that they do contain sugar, so they should be used in moderation. Cooked carrots can form part of your pooch's dinner as well.

Onions, great for cooking but in your dog's meal?

Onions are a no when it comes to cooking them and feeding them to your dog. Even raw onions should be avoided. Why? Well, they can cause irritation within the gastrointestinal system. In some cases, they can even lead to red cell damage.

Fresh or frozen peas. Are they a good option as part of your dog's meal?

Cooked or frozen peas can be given to your dog as a snack or part of its daily meal. They are filled with vitamin B as well. Peas can be sweet, so don't overdo it.

We love them in salads but should dog's eat cucumbers?

There is nothing wrong with giving your dog cucumber to eat. Not all dogs, however, will like the consistency of the flesh, especially near the seeds. Cucumbers are a great snack for overweight dogs as they contain very little calories.

Xylitol is found in many of our foods today, for example, peanut butter. Is it canine safe?

No! Never give your dog any food containing xylitol. This will significantly raise their insulin level and can lead to liver failure. Make sure you check products for xylitol before giving them to your dog.

Should you feed uncooked yeast dough to you dog?

No, you certainly should not. Yeast dough can still rise within the dog's stomach and will cause plenty of gas. Not only will this cause bloating but in extreme cases, the stomach may twist and will require surgery to fix.

Salted popcorn is a great snack for humans but do we share it with our pets?

One or two pieces of popcorn thrown to your pet is not going to cause any damage but if you put down a bowl for them (and many owners do), it is certainly not a great idea. Why? Not only will it cause your pets to drink a lot of water and urinate often but it can cause sodium poisoning. That can lead to vomiting, tremors, diarrhea, seizures and in extreme cases, death.

You love strawberries, right? But is it a fruit that you can give to your canine friends?

Yes, your dog can enjoy strawberries just as much as you can. They are a healthy snack packed with a range of vitamins, including vitamin C, that will benefit Fido.

Are raw eggs something you should give to your dog from time to time?

Although you would think that raw eggs are fine to give to your hound, you really shouldn't. Raw eggs can contain salmonella and E. coli which, of course, will be harmful to your dog. They also contain avidin, an enzyme that can affect the condition of a dog's coat.

Should dogs eat fried food?

Although we love fried foods, and our furry friends do as well, we should never give them any. A dog's digestive system is just not able to deal with all the fatty oils that fried foods contain. It could even lead to pancreatitis.

Watermelon. A good treat for your dog? Yes or no.

Watermelon is one of those fruits that you can feed your pooch. It is filled with lycopene, antioxidants and amino acids, vitamin A and B6. And it's 92 percent water anyway! Consider freezing it as a cooling snack on hot days.

Is it a good idea to feed your dog Macadamia nuts?

Nuts, in general, are something you shouldn't feed your dog just because of the high fat content. Macadamia nuts, however, can be very toxic and can cause overheating, vomiting, tremors and overall weakness.

Would bananas be considered a fruit that your dog could eat?

Bananas, in moderation, are fine for your dog. They are filled with potassium, vitamin C, and are great for fiber. Why don't you freeze them and give them as a treat on a hot day?

Are peach pits a good dog treat?

Although small pieces of peach are ok, feeding a whole peach to a dog is a no-no. Why? Well, the pit is especially toxic and contains cyanide. it can also splinter, cutting your dog's stomach. Dogs could even choke on it, especially if they are overly greedy.

Do vets consider currants to be a good treat for your pooch?

Currants should never be a snack for your dog. Scientists are not sure why but currents are extremely toxic to our furry friends and can even cause kidney problems, which can be fatal.

Is cooked chicken something a dog can eat?

As long as it is well cooked, then chicken is something you can feed your dog. In fact, if your dog has a tummy problem, most vets recommend you feed it some cooked chicken with rice.

Can you feed your dog garlic?

Garlic is a no when it comes to feeding to your dog. Why? Well, it can cause irritation within the gastrointestinal system. In some cases, it can even lead to red cell damage.

Bread. Something you can give your dog every now and again?

Bread is something you can give your dogs. In fact, it is a great vehicle to hide medication that they may need to take. From time to time, you could even put a thin layer of peanut butter on it (unsalted and without xylitol). Bread with seeds in it should be avoided, as these can hurt your dog's stomach.

Vets approve of the use of plain, unsweetened yogurt as a dog treat. Yes or no?

Although yogurt is a dairy product, it has far less lactose in it than milk, for instance. Giving your dog a little plain, unsweetened yogurt is, therefore, acceptable. Use one with plenty of live cultures. This helps your pooch digest the little bit of lactose that is found in all yogurt.

Do you love quinoa? Is your dog allowed to eat the leftovers of it?

Some dogs naturally have problems with their digestive system and need to eat fairly bland foods. In this regard, quinoa can be used to feed them. In fact, it is already in many dry dog food pellets that are available over the counter. Just feed your dog small amounts, however.

Blueberries are a great snack for humans. What about dogs?

You can give your dog blueberries, yes! They are filled with fiber, minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. You could freeze them and use them as a treat on hot days.

Do you think it is a good idea to feed your dog raw meat?

Of course we want to treat our pooch and although raw meat is a tempting idea, you should not give it to your dog. Raw meat may contain E. Coli or salmonella and at the end of the day, it is just not worth the risk.

Great on a piece of toast but should you share avocado with your dog?

Avocado is actually poisonous to many pets, including birds and dogs. Avocados are filled with something called persin, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Ingesting too much can be fatal.

Beer is refreshing, right? But should you give some to a dog?

This one is pretty obvious, right? Just think of what alcohol does to a human. Well, it will do the same to a dog. It also damages their liver, can cause vomiting and if a dog ingests too much, even death.

Is candy a treat that you can consider for dogs?

Just as in humans, sugary candy can make a dog put on weight. An overweight dog is putting stress on all of its organs, not to mention their bones and joints. It could also lead to diabetes and rotten teeth.

Corn on the cob. Yes or no?

Although small amounts of corn are fine, never give it to your dog while the corn is still on the cob. The cob itself is a problem. It can cause your dog to choke or it can block their intestines.

Raw bones. A good option to feed your dog or not?

Although many people do give their dogs raw bones, they really shouldn't. Why? Well, bones can cause dogs to choke. They can also splinter if the dog manages to crush them, cutting its throat and even its stomach.

Some fruits are fine to feed dogs. Is cantaloupe one of them?

Small amounts of cantaloupe are a great little treat for dogs. Packed with vitamin C, fiber and potassium, giving your furry friend some of this fruit in moderation will benefit them.

Should you let your dog eat chives?

Although you are never likely to feed your dog chives, in case you were thinking about it, simply don't do it. Chives can cause irritation within the gastrointestinal system. In some cases, they can even lead to red cell damage.
