Identify These Flower Types from One Image in 7 Minutes
by Narra Jackson

Close your eyes and imagine a young girl in Ancient Egypt, standing by the fertile soil of the Nile river, picking flowers to arrange in a bouquet. The earliest known floral arrangement dates back to the Ancient Egyptians. The Ancient Romans and Greeks loved to use flowers to create beautiful garlands and wreaths. In Ancient China people were using flowers for religious purposes and art. In Europe, during the Middle Ages, monks began growing beautiful flower and herb gardens, Over time flowers were used in various ways, in art, clothing, and for decorations.

Throughout time and history, flowers were assigned specific meanings. Even today, certain flowers are used to express specific sentiments. For example, red roses symbolize beauty, carnations: love/women, geranium: friendship, and lavender: devotion or virtue. Different flowers should be used for separate occasions. For example, there are specific flowers for funerals that you probably wouldn't want to use for a wedding such as white gladiolas. Instead, opt for orange or red roses which represent energy and passion.

Many people have a favorite flower. Some popular choices are sunflowers, daffodils, roses, carnations, tulips, daisies, orchids, and magnolias. Do you have a favorite flower or do you just love them all? How knowledgeable are you when it comes to different types of flowers? Think you can identify a flower by its picture?  Prove it by taking this quiz!
