Are you a measure twice, cut once kind of person? If so, this is the quiz for you.
Measurements are a way to standardize the meaning of length, volume, and weight. Without some form of standard measurements, we would not be able to communicate properly with one another. Can you imagine telling your neighbor how far the grocery store is without some frame of reference? Would you be able to tell your sister how much flour to put into a cake without units of measurement? "About that far" and "about that much" really doesn't properly convey the concept of weights and measures properly. (never mind the fact that grandma used to cup her hand to measure out flour and call it a cup)
Interestingly, many units of measure were once gauged using the human body. A foot was really once a human foot. An inch can be measured using your thumb in a pinch. The body was a great way to measure things because ... well ... everyone has one. Thank goodness we've moved away from using parts of the body to measure things or we'd have some crazy-looking buildings.
How well do you remember your units of measure? Take this quiz to find out.
