We are all human, and while we all have many things in common, we all know that there are differences between the male and female sexes, many of which we see every day. From the quantities and types of hormones being produced by the body to the way in which they interact with others, both males and females have traits that are unique to them.

These differences are so significant that there is even a field in neuroscience dedicated to studying the differences between the way that male and females brains work. One of the pioneers in that field is Dr. Nirao Shah, who when he began his research in 1998, wanted to explore the neural circuitry which regulated their specific behaviors. 

At a time when these sex-associated differences were thought to be as a result of cultural differences, Dr. Shah set out on focusing on the innate behaviors and the genes responsible for them. Fast-forward to almost 20 years later, both he and other independent researches have begun to unravel what makes us male and female.
