Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series which is an adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire. The show premiered in April 2011 on HBO and its final and eighth season is set to premiere in 2019. 

The series is set on the fictitious continents of Westeros and Essos and follows many different storylines all of which revolve around the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. Throughout the story, there are characters from all different walks of life as well as dragons, white walkers, giants, wights and children of the forest.

Almost instantaneously the show became one of the most popular series of the 2010 decade. It was so successful that people who were not fans of the book became fans and many of books were sold out all over the world. There were people who named their children and pets after different characters.
