Dr. Chapman outlined five love languages in his 1995 book, "The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate." In the book, he claims that every single person has one primary love language, and one secondary. Chapman has worked as a pastor for many years, and his concept of love languages is actually deeply rooted in religion, but is not solely a religious idea or practice. It is something that everyone can relate to and find themselves in. These five love languages primarily focus on how we express and want to be shown love from a romantic partner, but it can really extend to pretty much every relationship you can have.
Figuring out which love language you speak can help determine what kind of person you want to be with. If you require words of affirmation more than physical touch, it would be helpful to try and find someone whose primary language lines up with giving words of affirmation and not needing a lot of physical contact. Consider these love languages like the Zodiac signs. Some line up really well with others, and some are not super compatible.
