About This Quiz
BMW is an acronym for Bayerische Motoren Werke, which roughly translates to Bavarian Engine Works Company. In this name lies a hint to what the company first manufactured: engines. The company produced aircraft engines but, after the Treaty of Versailles, the German manufacturer was forbidden from making them. BMW pivoted and started producing railway brakes and built-in motors.
By 1923, BMW had produced its first motorcycle, the R 32. Just 10 years later, BMW would launch its first completely new, self-developed car: the 303. After the 303, BMW would go from strength to strength in the automotive world, finding particular success in the executive saloon niche. The 3 Series, BMW's best-selling model, has been listed on Car and Driver magazine's annual "Ten Best" for 22 consecutive years: this makes it the longest-running entry on the list. As a result, BMW has built up what can only be described as a "cult-like" following.
It's not just the car market that BMW has a dominating presence, it's also the go-to manufacturer in the adventure and sportbike motorcycle niches.
From long-wheelbase cars made for the passengers rather than the driver to motorcycles that will happily take you around the world, there are BMWs for all breeds and creeds. Now it's time to find out which BMW was made just for you!
