The Baby Boom generation is so named because they were born after WW II and the Great Depression, when the population suddenly shot up because people could afford kids again. Boomers did much to shape the 20th and 21st centuries. Sometimes called the Me Generation, they came of age in the mid- to late 1960s and through the 1970s, taking over many of the world's big jobs in the 1980s, and running the table in the 1990s. Their age bracket is anyone born from 1946 to 1964. Pew Research defines the following generation, Generation X, as being born between 1965 and 1980 (though the cutoff used to be 1976), and the one following that, Gen Y, as 1981 to 1996 (again, the start used to be 1977). The differences between the lives lived by these groups could not be more stark. While the Boomers and those who came before them could see middle class lives lived on the salaries of factory workers and door-to-door salesmen, many of those jobs disappeared thanks to technology and globalization.
Today, many jobs are simply a thing a computer does, or a thing no one does anymore because it isn't economically viable. Were you go go back in time though, which Boomer job would be your chance to enjoy 45 years of job security followed by a gold watch and a golden parachute? Take this quiz and find out!
