About This Quiz

The Boeing B17 Flying Fortress is one of the most famous planes ever to grace the skies.

And a Flying Fortress it was as well. Armed by up to eight machine guns, B17's flying in a tight formation gave each other just the right amount of protection although they still suffered heavy losses at the hands of the German fighters.

And the crew. Well, each B17 had a team of 10. These were the bombardier, navigator, pilot, co-pilot, engineer/top gunner, radio operator, gunner, ball turret gunner, right waist gunner, left waist gunner, tail gunner. Each of them was an essential cog in a well-oiled machine.

Flying from bases in the United Kingdom, the B17's bombed enemy targets throughout Europe, even as far afield as Italy. And all this during the daytime, in the face of massive opposition.

But these brave men overcame insurmountable odds and helped turn the war in favor of the allies.

So where would you have fitted in? Well, we have taken four crucial positions on the B17 and asked a range of questions to determine which B17 crew member you would have been.
