About This Quiz

Europe is the second smallest continent, with only Australia being smaller. The European continent technically extends somewhat into Russia up to the Caucasus Mountains. It also includes Turkey, which culturally is something of a bridge between Europe and the Middle East. On the western side, Europe extends out into the ocean as far as Iceland, which is not a member of the European Union but does compete in the Eurovision song contest. Heading south, Europe ends at the Mediterranean coastline. In the north, it goes all the way up to the Arctic, where Norway faces the icy ocean.

Crammed into these approximately four million square miles are more countries than you can shake a stick at. Indeed, though nearly half of Europe's landmass is taken up by Russia, the rest is divided into dozens of smaller sovereign states. They may not all have a long history in their present form - indeed, many of them only came into being after the fall of the Ottoman, Russian and Austro-Hungarian Empires - but they do all have a capital city. You have likely heard of most of them, but you have to be a real geography boffin to match the right city and country 100% of the time. Let's see how you do!
